It’s also worth naming why the usual advice hasn’t helped much, if you’ve already tried some of it. It matters less if your reactions are consistent and immediate with one very specific food regardless of how it’s prepared — that pattern points toward a more traditional food allergy or sensitivity, which is a different conversation with a different starting point, usually best had with an allergist rather than worked out through elimination alone.
It’s also worth being honest about the limits of what’s known here. The connection between estrogen and histamine clearance is well established in the research on how the two systems interact biologically, but there isn’t yet a large body of human clinical trials measuring exactly how much this shifts for women specifically during perimenopause, as opposed to across the menstrual cycle more broadly, where the pattern is better studied. What that means practically: the pattern described here fits what a lot of women report and lines up with the biology that’s been documented, but it’s a strong, evidence-backed explanation rather than a fully settled one — which is exactly why testing, rather than guessing, is worth bringing up if this sounds like you.
